Backing material

The quality and characteristics of the backing material has a major impact on the product's properties.

Strong / thick paper has a better wear ability than the "light" products. On the other hand, a thinner back provides greater flexibility in the paper.

The product's ability for stock removal (sanding) is related to the type of backing material. A strong backing will give the product a better grinding ability because the thick backing material has a stabilizing effect and binds the sand grains more firmly so that they have better contact with the surface to be sanded. For the powerful qualities a stronger bonding agent is many times preferred in order for the product to appear "stronger and more aggressive" than the lightweight qualities.

Because products intended for machine sanding must withstand more in terms of friction, impact and heat, these products have a higher backing weight than products intended for hand sanding.
